Etihad jets into the future with fleetwide high-speed Viasat Wi-Fi
Next-generation platform to transform passenger journeys
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways is taking passenger experience to new heights by expanding its partnership with Viasat Inc., a global leader in satellite communications.
The Abu Dhabi-based airline will deploy Viasat’s next-generation Amara connectivity solution across its entire fleet, enabling guests to stream, browse, and stay connected with unprecedented speed and reliability. The announcement builds on a multi-year collaboration that has already demonstrated high-quality digital service onboard select Etihad aircraft.
With Viasat Amara, Etihad passengers can enjoy streaming subscriptions directly on personal devices, access Live TV on seatback IFE screens – including a wide selection of news and sports channels – and seamlessly use social media, shopping, and communication apps.
The platform also positions Etihad to incorporate future innovations in connectivity, ensuring the airline remains at the forefront of digital travel experiences.
How will Etihad enhance digital services?
The expanded partnership covers more than 160 aircraft, including both widebody and narrowbody planes, with all new aircraft factory-installed with Viasat technology. This includes the recently introduced Airbus A321LR fleet, which began commercial service on 1 August 2025, as well as new Airbus A350 deliveries starting April 2025.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliners, introduced since 2023, are also equipped with Viasat connectivity. High-speed connections will be delivered through Viasat’s global Ka-band satellites, partner satellites, and upcoming LEO satellites.
Seamless experience for passengers
Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Arik De, explained that the upgrade is designed to give travellers the same seamless digital experience in the air as on the ground. Guests can stream shows, play games, take video calls, watch live sports, or browse and shop at high speeds. The solution also ensures continuous access to Viasat’s latest technology, keeping Etihad ahead in the competitive airline market.
For Viasat, the partnership represents a long-term investment in airline digital platforms. Meherwan Polad, Chief Commercial Officer, Viasat Aviation, emphasised that airlines can choose between basic connections or scalable, brand-owning platforms. Viasat Amara offers multi-orbit capabilities and next-generation hardware to support Etihad’s vision for a premium onboard experience. The expanded collaboration ensures passengers enjoy reliable, high-speed connectivity while supporting Etihad’s digital transformation goals.
By equipping its fleet with cutting-edge technology, Etihad Airways continues to strengthen its reputation for world-class hospitality and innovative digital service, offering passengers the freedom to tailor their in-flight experience as they choose.
